Pa’s Fiddle: Charles Ingalls, American Fiddler

Courtesy of the Little House books, Pa Ingalls is perhaps the 19th-century American fiddler about whom we know most. We know the names of many of the tunes and songs he played, where he played them, for whom, and often why he chose them. This recording, which draws from the instances when Pa is chronicled playing his fiddle alone, aims to place him among the first rank of old-time fiddlers whose music is foundational to so much in American music.

Dean Butler: Remembering Pa

As TV’s original Almanzo, Dean Butler is grateful for his connection to Laura Ingalls Wilder, her Little House on the Prairie books, and, most significantly, the television series they inspired. In 2019, for the 45th anniversary of the Little House series, Dean recorded four of the songs Pa Ingalls played for his family during their adventures on the prairie in the late 1800s. These songs and so many others provided Laura’s Little House books with a sturdy melodic foundation.
